Sam Up to 3 mos. & Some Odd Weeks

Sam is 3 months old now, actually more than that, but I don’t do weeks—it’s too number intensive. All things baby tend to be number intensive. He’s 10 lbs. 3 oz. and 23 in. (well that was 2 weeks ago). He’s still a wee lad only in the 15th percentile for weight and 10th percentile for height which is proportionate: Wouldn't it be more anxiety producing to have a baby that was 15th percentile in weight and 90th percentile in height or vice versa? Even if the world of percentiles didn’t let me know how wee he is, there’s a whole kit and caboodle of women in the supermarket who let me know their child was THAT big at birth. Dave insists that I hear the emphasis in people’s speech where there isn’t any—“these pretzels are SALTY” (Seinfeld reference). The doctor is not worried about him so I’m not either; well today anyway…at 3am I worry about everything.

So even though Sam is wee, he is thriving. He does all the 3 mos. baby stuff—clasps his hands, giggles, smiles at his mum (that’s his best event), blows razberries, his head stays relatively steady (relative to whom? There are not other babies around his age so I say steady). His worst event is lying on his belly and pushing up. I blame this on the SIDS scare. He’s not allowed to sleep on his belly so he gets cranky when he’s belly-side down. Every healthy kid eventually learns to crawl, right? I just hope he doesn’t crawl into kindergarten.

At the movies the other night, Dave nudged me when a baby was shown and whispered, “Not as cute as Sam.” We hope you think he is a fraction of the cuteness we think he is…or a 90th percentile of cuteness. He’s definitely cuter than that baby in Matchpoint.

Holly, one of my co-workers and now one of Sam's favorite people wrote: "Wow, as a labor and delivery nurse and a woman of 50 some odd years, I have seen a lot of babies - Sam is one special dude!  He is beautiful!  Love Holly"

Carl my obsequious friend from Elliott's wrote, "Nice to see the updated pics on yer baby.  Please don’t worry about suffocating me with sugary sweetness, you don’t even come close to the weekly, and sometimes Bi-weekly updates my cousin, who is in Anchorage, by the way, sends out.  Now pardon me as I draw some unwarranted comparisons between yer baby, and my cousins.  Feel free to skip ahead now as I talk about a baby not your own.  He (Ryan, the baby) is just over three months too, and he is a wee felly too.  I just met him the weekend before last, as the family blew thru here on a whirlwind tour of the lower 48.  He's just fitting into his 0-3 months clothes.  The family is all a flutter about his small size, but her doctor says is ok, he is growing, and gaining weight, just not quickly, was carried full term and delivered in a non Roman manner.  So maybe is something to do with cold climates, stunts the little fellers, makes for cute babies though."

Cam Miller wrote: "Nice.  Consider this, my Dad was 10 lbs when he was born!" So you think Cam meant
MY dad was 10lbs when we was born or
My Dad was TEN POUNDS when he was born or
My dad was 10lbs. when he was BORN.

Beth my friend from Seattle who moved to NJ but then moved to Vegas and is now moving back to NJ before I could visit her in Vegas wrote: "Sam is by far the cutest baby I have seen in a long, long time (about 25 years to be exact).  He is in fact, an extraordinarily adorable baby, and also a good guy.  He looks happy, healthy, and thriving!  You can send me pictures daily and I would not get tired of it.  I would, however, appreciate seeing your smiling face next to Sam's.  I miss seeing YOU, Lesa." Yeah, I'll get a picture of me on there soon. I'm the obsessive picture taker though.

Shannon has very specific ideas about baby clothes--she sends me boxes of the best clothes so I will forgive her not liking me Little Friends outfit. "Lose all clothing that says “Little … ANYTHING!” (I sent you a box of stuff today to help you with this criteria).
My children weighted this much when they were born.
He is SO FREAKING CUTE and I am sad/mad Phyllis beat me to the punch of holding him… I must make a trip.
I don’t find it too precious… I love it.  Thanks for letting me see the little rascal. "

The last telephone conversation I had with Sally (which as you will find out was AGES ago) I told her that I didn't want to be a first time 40 year old mom. One shouldn't make proclamations, "Your baby is without a doubt the most adorable baby since anneka was born.  He is so alert, engaged, and spunky.  I wish I could see the two of you.  I can tell that your love knows no bounds and I am so grateful that you get this great gift  that will teach you many lessons.  I have a pre teen that is filled with a great love of life.  She is also a bit untidy, like her mom."

"Sam, our man,  is not camera shy.  I love the close-ups.  He has the biggest blue eyes and the sweetest face!  He looks like a true Buffalo-babe with his polarfleece outfits and hats.  Keep on sending pics---I love them.  You are such a great Mom!!  Enjoy these times---and they just keep getting better.  Love, Peg"
Mom will be so pleased that the hats were noticed AND on his head. Gram always worries the hat situation.

Shannon also wrote about the movie Match Point or Matchpoint and I totally agree. "All I could think of in that Match Point scene when they bring the baby in…WHAT THE????  How could the mom be wearing the same pair of pants she was wearing earlier in the movie?  Little khaki boot cut pants ~             right after giving birth???  I couldn’t concentrate.  I thought they had adopted that baby since CLEARLY the mother would not be wearing the same pants she was wearing when she was trying to get pregnant… WHAT THE????"
